It’s the beginning.

Well, here we go. A day late and a dollar short, I begin blogging. The amusing thing is, I think of myself as a fairly savvy guy. “in touch” as it were, so it’s not like I wasn’t fully aware of how this thing works or the reasoning behind it. No, my entire reason for not picking up the blog bug long ago is simply that I, on a fundamental, visceral level, cannot bring myself to believe that my life, or indeed 99% of the lives of 99% of the people who write in their blog each and every day, is interesting or informative enough to warrant being published for general consumption.

Now, don’t get me wrong.

If you are a “special interest” blogger, then yeah, I can totally see the appeal. The beauty of the blog is that it neatly and cleanly brings your crazy/dirty/awesome/tedious interests to the attention of thousands of other people who would love nothing better then to read all about how you shot a full reel of “retro” super 8 film of your rare Indonesian kickboxing frogs mating ritual.

But here’s my problem: I do not have an overwhelming passion that drives my every creative endeavor. I do not focus so much of my attention on a single activity as to justify an entire blog in that one gleaming (or dripping) facet of my existence. I am not a celebrity fan boy, hardly famous in my own right, and lack the time and the patience to provide you, the reader, with exhaustive and informative information on anything of note.

“but Nick,” I hear you mutter, fingers scratching at your head in puzzlement, “why should I read your blog, then?”

Well, there’s the question, really. I plan on filling this space with interesting and informative things. Things that catch my fancy and make me laugh, or think, or want to set something on fire. I will be funny, witty and entertaining, and hopefully you will read. Because I like that idea. If not, well, hey, nobody is forcing you to.

Unless they have a blog widget for that. hold on, let me check.
